Özlem Gürses is Professor of Law at Tulane University Law School, USA. Prior to joining Tulane, she taught Insurance Law at King’s College London. She is Chair of the AIDA Reinsurance Working Party and serves as Vice Chair of the British Insurance Law Association (BILA).

Professor Gürses will deliver this year’s BILA Annual Update, providing an analysis of key developments in insurance law over the past twelve months.

The lecture will cover a broad range of recent cases and issues, including the duty of fair presentation of risk, avoidance of an insurance contract and waiver, the distinction between direct, and significant causes of loss, insurance brokers’ duties, double insurance, conditions precedent to insurers’ liability, aggregation and the meaning of “any one event”, sue and labour, constructive total loss, abandonment of vessels, mortgagee’s interest insurance, pay-to-be-paid clauses, reinsurance, full reinsurance and claims co-operation clauses.
