Glenn Newberry is a partner in Eversheds Sutherland and head of the firm’s Litigation Funding and Costs teams. He has extensive experience of advising claimants and defendants on the options available, many of which are jurisdiction-specific, to fund, de-risk, and off-book litigation risk and
spend, finding solutions which enable clients to share the risks and rewards with law firms, funders and insurers. Glenn is also an expert in costs disputes and budgeting, being lead advocate in numerous detailed assessment hearings and representing clients in costs disputes all the way to the Supreme Court.
In his lecture Glenn will consider:

- the evolution of funding and alternate fee agreements
- the impact on the funding industry of the Supreme Court’s decision in PACCAR (R (on the application of PACCAR Inc and others) (Appellants) v Competition Appeal Tribunal and others (Respondents) [2023] UKSC 28)
- the unintended consequences of the Access to Justice Act and the Compensation Act
- the likely next steps – legislation or regulation
- the opportunities for the insurance market
