The 2025 BILA Book Prize was announced on 3 December 2025 in the Old Library at Lloyd’s before the Annual Update delivered by Professor James Davey of Bristol University, Immediate Past President of BILA.

The prize-winning book is “Insurance, Climate Change and the Law” by Dr Franziska Arnold-Dwyer, Associate Professor of Law at UCL, who was able to accept the award in person from Alison Green, Chair of the BILA Charitable Trust.

Speaking on behalf of all the trustees, who unanimously favoured the book, Alison Green commended Dr Arnold-Dwyer for producing a well-written book encompassing the main legal and regulatory issues associated with climate change which insurers may have to consider. The book helpfully provided some thought-provoking discussion upon the role insurers can play in relation to the challenge climate change may pose when they write their policies and invest their assets. In the view of the judging panel the timely and insightful book makes a significant contribution to the evolving dialogue at the intersection of insurance and climate risk truly meriting this recognition.
