Welcome to the BILA research pages where you can find links to useful resources on insurance law.  From the Journal tab you can read the current edition of the BILA Journal and also search the BILA Journal archive, containing articles dating back to the Journal’s launch in 1964.

Here we provide an outline of, and links to, the principal legislation of significance to insurance. Also, similar links to the most pertinent Law Commission projects concerned with insurance, past and present, as well as links to databases of cases and materials related to Lloyd’s market activities.

We endeavour to make these pages as useful as possible to practitioners, academics and anyone else with an interest in insurance law.

The BILA Journal was first launched in 1964 and has been published regularly since then.  All previous editions of the BILA Journal are available to members in our archive.

There are only limited statutes of significance to insurers in the United Kingdom.  As a useful resource tool for research we have included a list of the main sources of insurance law in the United Kingdom.

The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (Bailii) contains British and Irish case law & legislation, European Union case law, Law Commission reports, and other law-related British and Irish material.  Certain recent cases published in the Lloyd’s Law Report are also available on our website.

We will publish details of new titles of interest to insurance and reinsurance law practitioners from time to time.

BILA Members are entitled to a 15% discount code into the “Discount Code” section of the “checkout” screen on routledge.com. This code is valid until 31st October 2018.

From time to time we will publish articles and bulletins of interest.  A number of our corporate members publish articles and briefings on developments in insurance law and regulation.  A number of these publications are included on our site.

FSA Enforcement Cases

From time for time we will include details of interesting FSA enforcement actions which have specific relevance to the insurance sector.

Lloyd’s documents of interest

Many of our members will have a particular interest in the Lloyd’s market.  In order to ensure that documents of interest are available, we have included links and some uploads to those materials which are likely to be relevant to research.
