Two topical discussions. Leading industry expertise. An afternoon exploring the issues shaping the future of insurance law.
Last week, we brought the insurance law community together at Lloyds Old Library for our 2026 BILA Half Day Conference, tackling two complex and increasingly relevant areas of insurance law and practice.
The afternoon began with a welcome from our Vice Chair and conference programme organiser, Professor Özlem Gürses, Professor of Maritime Law and Deputy Director of the Maritime Law Centre at Tulane University Law School.
Marine War Risks Insurance and Illegality took centre stage in our first panel, with discussions exploring the impact of geopolitical uncertainty, sanctions, blocking and trapping in the Persian Gulf, and the legal complexities surrounding marine insurance claims.
Chaired by our Chair, Manoj Vaghela Vaghela (The Wordley Partnership), the panel included Oliver Caplin KC (Twenty Essex), Dr Feng Wang (University of Southampton) and Melis Otmar, ACII (Howden).
Our second panel shifted the focus to AI Risk and Liability, examining how artificial intelligence is challenging established approaches to professional responsibility, liability and insurance coverage.
Chaired by Christopher Jones (International Underwriting Association of London), the discussion featured Meghan Dalton (Clyde & Co), Antonia Pegden (HSF Kramer) and David Turner KC (4 New Square).
A huge thank you to all our speakers for sharing their knowledge and expertise, and to everyone who joined us for an afternoon of insightful discussion, fresh perspectives and valuable networking.
Couldn’t join us on the day? Don’t worry. A recording of the conference will be available in the BILA Members Area, so you can catch up on the discussions and insights at your convenience.
