David Lewis QC
David is a specialist advocate practising in a wide range of general commercial and private international law disputes. He took silk in 2014 at the age of 36. From 2009 to 2010, he was based in Singapore, practising in international arbitration. He is also called to the Bar of the BVI, and has regularly appeared in Courts and international arbitrations overseas. He has acted in cases covering a wide range of types of insurance, often with an international dimension, as well as in reinsurance disputes.
In addition to a broad commercial practice, Oliver acts in both marine and non-marine insurance disputes in Court and arbitration, both led and un-led. His previous career as a medical doctor means he particularly enjoys insurance disputes in the bio-tech, pharma and medical devices industries, or anything with a scientific or technical backbone to it. He has a special interest in private international law, and regularly advises on jurisdiction issues in the context of insurance litigation and arbitration. He also has experience of brokers’ negligence claims. Oliver is a co-author of the new fourth edition of Michael Miller’s “Marine War Risks”, which is to be published in late 2018.
